England talent
Development Squad I am pleased to inform you that I have been invited to attend these sessions with Hannah Lewis to allow me to work more closely with the national squad coaches creating a better understanding of what is expected and how it works, hopefully we will be able to bring some of this back to the club and develop future stars. |

21st / 22nd Feb
North West Open Ranking event for the England squad took 12 players and came back with 7 medals Natasha Fraser Gold U36kg Ellen Lewis Gold U44kg Hannah Lewis Silver U78kg Rebbeca Burnett Bronze U36kg Sarah Crampton Bronze U70kg John Armstrocg Bronze U46kg Rebbeca Coxon Bronze U63kg |

| A good performance from Courtney Hancock was unfortunately was strangled in the early stages but came back to narrowly lose for bronze in the U57kg also Emma Langton in the same group, there was a welcome return for Gary Stewart in the mens U60kg where he had a dubious decision against him in the 1st fight and then was beaten to go through for bronze, weighing in at 56kg Gary is giving away a lot of weight and it showed as he matched the players for skill but not power this is something we will need to work on and decide what his best weight is, all in all a great weekend. | |||||||||||

Circuit
training The club has taken delivery of some of the fitness equipment that has been ordered for Tyne Boys and it is already proving to be a success as the fitness levels of our players have increased and it is showing in their competition results, this session is open to everyone over 10yrs of age from our club and I would urge the players who have ambitions to compete to attend, the session costs £1.00 and is from 6.30pm till 7.30pm |

Club Subs After consultation with the members and parents the club have decided to charge 50p per week subs for all players, until now this has been voluntary and many have benefitted from this but in order to be fair to all it has been agreed it will become mandatory for all players. Currently the cost of coaching badges has been met by the coaches themselves but as we move towards UKCC badges the cost increases considerably and it was felt it was only fair the club covers the cost, the subs will only cover a small percentage of the true cost and we will need to look at other ways of raising the rest. |

| Having completed two of the four ranking events for the year as a club we are well placed to increase our presence at National level taking 12 medals over the two events which is more than any other club in the Northern area, and have probably the strongest girls section in the area too, we must not get carried away with our early success but continue to work hard to achieve what we need, Ian Hepple whilst continuing to compete is working towards his coaching badge and will be a welcome addition to our coaching staff, this will give the club two qualified coaches and three instructors. | |||||||||||

Training
sessions On a final note having looked long and hard at the various section within the club I have decided that in order to ensure everyone is getting what they want from the club we will be splitting this down further, below is how the club will be structured and if anyone has any questions regarding this please come and see me |

Duncan Stewart I am the Head Coach of both clubs and my role will continue with the assistance of Ian to train our top competitors, entry to this session will be 1st of all by recommendation then assessment by myself & Ian. Margaret Stewart This section will be used as a feeder in to my section for players with aspirations to compete and will be technique based, I will be assisting in this from time to time and any players can approach me to discuss their progress Jacquie Hepple This section will be for non competitive players who wish to grade but not compete, this again will be technique based and again I will assist from time to time with the development of this section and again any players wishing to discuss their progress can speak to me Kath Emblen This is our samurai section and will be for all players under 8yrs of age, this will be a mixture of fun and technique and all coaches will be expected to assist in the development of this group, we are currently developing our grading criteria for this group to reflect the changes made by the BJA and again anyone wishing to discuss this can see me at any time. |

2009 has started well and our club
continues to grow and progress, there has been some major investment
by the club both in time and money (£10k) over the last year which I
hope you can all see, we still want to do more and will strive to
meet our targets set back at the end of 2007 regarding club
development and push on, we will continue to focus on our venue at
Tyne Boys as our home base despite The Parks being our original home
this is purely due to the fact we have more flexibility in what we
can do at Tyne. Good luck in the coming months with your training |
