The Parks Judo Club 2010

! As we move into a new year with new challenges I thought it would be a good time to reflect on our achievements of 2009 both in competition and at the club.

 July Newsletter

2009 saw the club take up a development with the local authority to assist with the training and education of our top level performers, this involved many sessions both in the gym and in the classroom, despite some initial teething problems I would say it has been a great success as we have seen our high end players achieve even better results than in previous years.

Tyne Youth & Community centre this year became a venue of choice for the British Judo Association for coach education and many successful courses ran through out the year making use of the excellent facilities we have on offer

National events: our club continued to travel around the country enhancing our reputation as a top club with some fantastic performances culminating in our gaining 6 places on the national squads which for a club in a small town like North Shields is a fantastic achievement

International events: our club continues to travel the world as we looked to repeat our success of 2008, not surprisingly we exceeded our previous year with successes in Holland & France bringing our medal tally as a club (not as part of the National squad) to 12 including 3 gold and  2 silver

Club development: this year we consolidated our membership despite the harsh climate and now coach approx 150 players per week and although we have had to cut back one of our sessions towards the end of the year I hope that this will resume in 2010, our key targets for 2009 have been reached or bettered as seen below

a)    *we now have 4 full contest areas split between the Parks and Tyne

b)   *Scoreboards purchased and in full use

c)    *New coach development with the addition of 2 new coaches

d)   *Growth in the younger age groups with 35% of our new members aged between 6yrs and 10yrs

e)    *Club kit available and issued free of charge to our high performance players such as Training tops, T shirts, Jackets & *tracksuits

f)     *Club funded International events such as France

*7 members on the national squad system and 1 member on the elite squad

The club also finished in a financially sound footing despite the expenditure over 12 months and I look forward to growing this in the coming year.

2009 has seen some personal highs and  I would like to share some of these with you, the tremendous support the club has enjoyed from the local business community who have helped the club financially to grow, the “boom” in the membership of our samurai section (u8yrs) and the warm friendly atmosphere generated by the parents and members at the club and the maturing of our youth section into a very strong unit where we are looking to see the emergence of some strong senior players and becoming a full time club by opening Tyne centre as well as the leisure centre

 Aims for 2010:

a)    having looked at the costs to build and sustain a full time dojo we have decided to continue to promote Tyne and The Parks which offers us this without the high costs

b)   We are looking to build on last year with the local authority to create our world class training offering

c)    We should start to see some success with the minority groups bringing even more people to the club

d)   WE have been approached by special needs groups to put an offering to them and we will be developing this soon

e)    Develop our volunteers section which will in turn help sustain the club

f)     Look to work more closely with the local schools to encourage even more youngsters into the club

g)    Resurrect our senior section and grow this

As you can see we have set ourselves some tough but achievable goals for 2010 and hope that you will “come along for the ride” remember this is not my club but the members club where everyone is treated equally and all visitors are given a warm welcome and we encourage everyone to come along and support one of the most successful clubs in the North East

Yours in Judo
